Tom Neusinger

Tom Neusinger - Reflexologist, Reiki Practitioner and Teacher

Tom has been practising complementary therapy in the Exeter area since 2001 both with the general public and with groups of vulnerable adults from the homeless to people who have learning disabilities. He passionately believes in taking complementary therapies to those who need it the most in an integrated and sustainable way.

Tom currently works as an independent therapist providing sessions focused on maintaining balance through relaxation in residential homes for people who have learning disabilities around Exeter working in consultation with NHS service providers. He offers sessions to the general public through Oak Integrated Health Practice and from his home in Willand, Devon where he also teaches reiki.

Tom believes that each of us can attain and maintain positive wellness through achieving balance with our environment and within ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Once a state of balance has been reached our being naturally gravitates towards good health. Thus the aim of a session is to support a person in their journey to and maintenance of a more balanced state, to highlight areas of imbalance and use reiki and reflexology as appropriate to stimulate and support the natural healing process.

Originally trained as a cabinet maker, a long period of travel brought Tom to the realisation that he needed to be working with people, it was during this period that he first experienced and began learning the art of reiki in India in 1999. On return to the UK Tom trained in Precision Reflexology with Jan Williamson at the School of Precision Reflexology, qualifying in March 2002. Tom continued his training in the Usui reiki System of Healing over five years with Joanne Pope, Reiki Master Teacher, finally completing his reiki Master Teacher training in March 2005.

From 2002 Tom worked as part of multidisciplinary teams providing complementary therapies through The St Petrocs Centre for the Homeless, The Exeter Drugs Project and with Daytime Community Therapies (now The Creative Therapies Team), part of the Devon Partnership NHS Trust, providing sessions for people with profound and complex learning disabilities. Meanwhile he has been building a general practice offering sessions through premises or in people’s homes and has worked with a wide range of conditions including ME, fibromyalgia, gastro intestinal disorders, back pain and issues such as stress, anxiety, bereavement and depression. Since 2006 Tom has been teaching the Usui Reiki System of Natural Healing to small groups and individuals, he sees the opportunity to pass on such a versatile and often transformative technique as a great privilege.

Sessions will involve a detailed case history and assessment of each individuals needs and expectations. The client and practitioner then come to an agreement about treatment type and regularity for example to either a set of sessions for chronic conditions or one off sessions for relaxation. The duration of actual treatment is between 40 and 50 minutes and sessions are generally an hour long although the first session is an hour and quarter to allow for consultation time. Advice and techniques and for use at home are very much part of the approach in an effort to enable each individual to take responsibility for their own health.
